30 Years of Losing
Founded by Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt in 1987, Sub Pop Records is the record label that launched grunge from the Seattle underground into the international stratosphere, and popularized such bands as Nirvana, Mudhoney, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Postal Service, The Shins, Fleet Foxes, and Flight of the Conchords. Infamous for their “Dear Loser” artist rejection letters, the phrase became synonymous with Sub Pop and the Grunge scene.
Over the years they have developed an almost mythic status in the music world as tastemakers and trendsetters. Their 30th birthday seemed as good a time as any to celebrate the amazing acheivements and awesome contributions they’ve made to the alternative music scene.
Pavitt and Poneman fashioned their label after legendary companies like Blue Note and Motown Records. The 30 Years of Losing collateral is a loving homage to graphic designer Reid Miles’ beautiful work for Blue Note Records.
30 Years of Losing incorporates a limited edition record, history booklet, infographic poster, minisite, and promo CDs.
